How can you win from the chair? How do you make a Game Face?
Well, despite what you might think, you can actually play better even when you're sitting down. It doesn't seem possible does it? But you can. Attitude is everything, and here's how it works.
Instead of choking or giving up when you miss, here are some strategies you can use, even from the chair while you wait for your opponent.

Played a pro and ended up looking like a noob because nothing you tried worked? Understanding how and when to either play the table or get a killer instinct is key to solving these issues. There is nothing in the WPA or BCA rules that prevents the use of a wrist brace.However, as each tournament can invoke their own, "house rules", it's always wise to check with the tournament director.

      First thing to discover would be what it is exactly you're concerned about. Winning or losing a game in any sport should not be a life or death experience (unless it's combat sports). So: #1 - Figure out why you're brain is inducing a state of panic. #2 - Ask yourself if that fear is rational or not. #3 - If it is not rational, then use the methods outlined in my playlist to find many different ways to try to mitigate that fear response. #4 - Use a distraction strategy like concentrating on the mundane to keep your subconscious busy. #5 - Be patient with yourself as you learn a new talent like mental training. It will take time.

      Thank you very much. Music can be a good distraction for sure. The only issue you might have is when the music becomes more of a focus than trusting yourself to perform a complex task. That's when people make mistakes. You have to strike a balance between losing yourself in a distraction and losing yourself in performance. It's one of those things that can only be learned through repetition.

    Earl is right about one thing is that athletes are paid salaries to play and in pool and also in golf you have to perform to get the big winnings. I’m an athlete & have also shot in the 60’s in golf and my pool game is way better than my golf game. Running a five pack in 9 ball is equal to shooting under par in golf imo. One of the reasons I quit pool 30 years ago as a top player at 140 speed on the USPPA was because there was no money in it and took 70 hours a week to play top speed. At the same time I think pool & golf are two of the best game sports ever invented. Chess and cards are a game. Anything that requires physical & mental is a sport. Some may argue & say chess or something else but those are games. Cheers

    I don't have a problem with Strickland I mean granted he's out there but I think he's overall a decent guy and I like Joe Rogan but, idk, I guess this was 13 years ago or something and the way Joe was reacting to Strickland was it was disrespectful and condescending and just instead of trying to really see where he's coming from which is hard to do his theatrics but if you don't agree with him or you know you think he's a little out there just remove yourself from it Don't sit there and have him go on about something that he's passionate about just so you have something snide to say under your breath, very disappointing Joe.

    I am ready, have a somewhat stable stroke. So I got one. No instruction, but it seemed to me the point was to chalk well (and not the better chalk that doesn’t leave much residue, but old fashioned chalk) to check I was hitting where I wanted to hit. Except, right away ran into the problem that if you want to be accurate you have to place the training cue ball perfectly “square” both the the 90 deg of the shot and also vertically level. That drove me nuts.

    • @ThePracticeRoomPool
      @ThePracticeRoomPool 3 місяці тому

      Training balls expose those things we never want to see, which is that we are not perfect. But knowing that, you can focus on your stroke, follow through, and your bridge. Everything starts with that stable and repeatable bridge. I still break out those training balls often to make sure I'm delivering the cue correctly.

      @@ThePracticeRoomPool Yeah. I totally changed my mind on how difficult they are to use. Just takes some patience. I tried again, it’s not as difficult as I made it out to be, I just use the red stripe on mine make it parallel and 90 deg to my shot line. I don’t use my “good chalk” becaus it doesn’t leave much of a mark. Also a rag/cloth to wipe off the mark after every shot. I very quickly found out I was hitting consistently (at least that’s good) low and right when I meant to hit center. Realized after thinking more about it, and testing that I wasn’t letting the cue hang down from the pendulum, and turned my wrist slightly when shooting, more so when shooting harder. I was able to correct, will have to keep checking, but seemed odd to shoot, yet I was hitting dead center after a while. Some shots suddenly became much easier and more consistent. It is hard to break habits but I’m a convert and will be using my practice cue ball often.

    Never vacuum a pool table cloth. All that needs to be done is wring a terry cloth towel almost dry and wipe down the cloth in the long direction. This will remove the chalk dust from the cloth. Do this every time you play and your cloth will last for years. Next, keep the balls clean without using any wax.

    This could be the best video on the mental game of pool. I'm a B+/A player and I've read a few books/articles on sports psychology (eg Inner Game of Tennis). Everything mentioned in this video falls in line what I know about the flow, from research and in my own experience. Learn how to play and play the game! Whatever's happening on the rail and all that chatter from the onlookers is not going to have any affect on the physics of the game. Don't try to impress others and don't feel like you're obligated to win, because no one wins every match. Not every practice session or pool match is going to be a step forward, but you incessantly strive to make progress. Attitude is a major part the game. And you're only as good as what you practice. Running that four-pack with all that distraction in the background is impressive. No better way to shut your critics up than to actually play lights out.

      @@scottisitoro3953 I heard that interview too. The only time Earl played Efren in a world championship was 1997. US open 9 ball. Reyes was up 3-0. Earl won 11-3. The numbers just don’t add up for me. Reyes is the most creative and best shot maker I ever seen. He didn’t have a good break and you could never be the best 9 ball player without that.

    Everything you spoke on about visualization and seeing the end too early is right on ppoint. Also about negative thinkiing. Every time i see myself missing shot, I miss. Almost no matter how simple it is. I can't figure out how to stop doing it. nThis mainly happens when I'm having a rough match. I get the yips on the 8 or 9 ball at times if I haven't taken the right mental steps before I take the shot and give it away.. Thanks for this video.

      This is a fact. Many times I have a 3 ball run to finish a table run and as soon as I think about it I tell myself watch me mess it up. Needless to say I always mess it up. I should have at least 10 table runs this session and I only have four and each time it’s because I compute negative input. Got something to work on now for sure.
